Google will now be able to tell you if there’s any room at your favorite joint without you even having to leave the house, thanks to an upgrade to its ‘Popular Times’ feature.
Once only able to list peak hours, the feature now has a live feed designed to tell you how busy certain places are in real time.
Using data from Google Maps users, the system includes all kinds of venues where you might want to either join or avoid a crowd, from bars and restaurants to coffee shops and museums.
Popular Times now also tells you how long each user spends at a particular venue so you can plan your evening in advance.
With those of you worried that your every move is being broadcast on the internet, don’t worry. Beyond giving the option to deactivate the feature Google also ensures that the location history data of all Maps users is anonymous.
Kudos to Google for a handy little feature.
