Lagos State Governor Ambode Sued For Illegally Allocating Lands In The State

Lagos state governor Akinwunmi Ambode has been sued by the Odugbese-Abereoje chieftaincy family of Ajah.
The Punch reports that the family filed a lawsuit before the High Court of Lagos state seeking nullification of the allocation of their family land at Ajiwe by the Lagos State Government.
In the suit filed by their counsel Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, the family held that the Lagos State Government is incompetent to allocate their land to a stranger.
This, they say, is so because they had obtained a court judgment over the said land from the High Court of Lagos State against the same Lagos State Government.
To the family, cannot therefore not “allocate, assign, transfer or vest ownership of all that parcel of land situate and being at Ajiwe to Adeogun Ogunbona & Sons Ltd., which company is not a member of their family.”
The Lagos State Government had filed an appeal against the judgment but did not obtain a stay of execution.
The family is now seeking an order restraining the company from taking over the land to develop or build until the end of the case after the government allotted the land on November 26, 2016 to Adeogun Ogunbona Limited.
In an affidavit deposed to by Chief Aruna Anofiu, the head of the Abereoje family, it was stated that the family is not willing to transfer its interest in the land to the company.
Sources close to the state government informed that the demolition was carried out because the government had strong intelligence reports that militants had moved into the area in preparation to launch attacks in Lekki and the Victoria Island axis.
